How do I set up Facebook Pixel and Conversions API?

Open Facebook Pixel & CAPI, paste your Pixel ID and your Conversions API access token, switch on Turn on Facebook tracking for my store, press Save, then press Send test event. From then on your shop sends visits, add-to-carts, checkouts and purchases to your own Facebook Pixel, both from the visitor's browser and from the server.

Where to find it

Admin › Online store › Tracking & codes › Facebook Pixel & CAPI (ট্র্যাকিং ও কোড). The page is called Facebook Tracking.

Only the store owner (Super Admin) can use it: its tick, Website keys, domain & tracking (owner), does not open it for staff, not even for an Admin.

Step by step

  1. In Facebook Events Manager, open your Pixel (create one if you have none) and copy its ID.
  2. Paste it into Pixel ID (Dataset ID). Numbers only, for example 123456789012345.
  3. In Events Manager, open the Pixel's Settings, find Conversions API and press Generate access token. Copy it.
  4. Paste it into Conversions API access token.
  5. Choose when a cash-on-delivery order counts as a sale in Cash on delivery orders count as a Purchase.
  6. Leave Also load the Facebook Pixel in the browser ticked (see below).
  7. Switch on Turn on Facebook tracking for my store.
  8. Press Save. The badge at the top changes to Tracking is ON.
  9. Press Send test event. "Connection works: Facebook received the test event." means you are done.

Facebook catalog (product feed)

At the bottom of the same page, Facebook catalog (product feed) turns your products into a feed for Facebook and Instagram catalog ads, retargeting and Shops.

  1. Press Turn the feed on and copy the Feed address (/feeds/facebook-catalog.xml on your shop).
  2. In Meta Commerce Manager, open your catalog (or make one: E-commerce, Online products).
  3. Catalog › Data sources › Add items › Data feed › Use a URL: paste the address and choose Daily (or hourly).
  4. Connect the catalog to your Pixel (Catalog › Events).

Each product's id in the feed is the same id your Pixel and Conversions API send, so catalog ads show the products people viewed or bought. The feed updates by itself when you change a product. Products without a photo or a price, and hidden products, are left out.

Good to know

  • Your own Pixel only. Each store uses its own Pixel ID and token. Nothing is sent to Facebook until you switch tracking on.
  • The token is never shown again. After saving, the box shows only dots and the last 4 characters. Leave the box empty to keep the saved token, paste a new one to replace it, or tick Remove the saved token.
  • Cash on delivery choice. When the order is placed (the starting choice), When the order is confirmed (Processing), or When the order is delivered (Complete). Online payments count only after the payment is confirmed.
  • Browser Pixel. Ticked from the start and recommended. Untick it only if your Pixel code is already added somewhere else, such as Google Tag Manager or Other tracking codes, or events are counted twice.
  • Ask first. Tick Ask visitors for permission first if you sell where the law needs consent, such as Europe or the UK.
  • See it working. Last 7 days and Latest events show what was sent.

Common problems

  • "To switch tracking on, add both the Pixel ID and the Conversions API access token." One of the two is missing. Add it and save again.
  • The test says the access token is wrong or expired. Generate a new token in Events Manager and paste it.
  • The test asks you to check the Pixel ID. The token must be made from the same Pixel whose ID you pasted.
  • Send test event is greyed out. Save the Pixel ID and token first.
