Copy the test code from Facebook's Test events screen, paste it into Test event code on the Facebook Tracking page, press Save, then press Send test event and browse your shop. Your events show up live in Test events. When you are done, empty the code and save again.
Where to find it
Admin › Online store › Tracking & codes › Facebook Pixel & CAPI (ট্র্যাকিং ও কোড), the Test event code box and the Check the connection box.
Only the store owner (Super Admin) can use it: its tick, Website keys, domain & tracking (owner), does not open it for staff, not even for an Admin.
Step by step
- Set up tracking first: Pixel ID and access token saved, tracking switched on.
- In Facebook Events Manager, open your Pixel and go to Test events. Copy the test code shown for server events (it looks like TEST12345).
- In the panel, paste it into Test event code. Press Save.
- Press Send test event. You should see "Connection works: Facebook received the test event. You will see it under Events Manager > Test events."
- Look at Test events in Facebook: a PageView appears.
- Now open your shop, view a product, add it to the cart and open checkout. Watch PageView, ViewContent, AddToCart and InitiateCheckout arrive.
- When you are happy, empty Test event code and press Save.
How it works
While the code is filled in, every event your shop's server sends carries that code, so Facebook shows it on the Test events screen. Send test event sends one PageView right away and shows Facebook's answer on the page, so you know at once whether the Pixel ID and token are right.
Good to know
- Empty the code after testing. Events sent with a test code are for checking; they should not stay on while you run ads.
- The code is letters, numbers, - and _ only. Paste it without spaces.
- A Purchase may not come at once. It is sent only when the order qualifies, for example when it is confirmed, if you chose that.
- Send test event can be pressed up to 10 times a minute.
- The panel shows results too. Latest events on the same page lists the last 15 events with Sent, Waiting, Sending or Failed.
Common problems
- Send test event is greyed out. Save the Pixel ID and access token first.
- "Facebook did not accept the test event". The message says why: a wrong or expired token, or a Pixel ID that does not match the token.
- The test works but nothing shows while browsing. If Ask visitors for permission first is on, press Allow on the bar at the bottom of your shop first.
