Open Facebook Pixel & CAPI, tick Ask visitors for permission first and press Save. Your shop then shows a small bar with Allow and No thanks, and Facebook tracking starts only for visitors who press Allow.
Where to find it
Admin › Online store › Tracking & codes › Facebook Pixel & CAPI (ট্র্যাকিং ও কোড), on the Facebook Tracking page.
Only the store owner (Super Admin) can use it: its tick, Website keys, domain & tracking (owner), does not open it for staff, not even for an Admin.
Step by step
- Make sure Facebook tracking is set up and switched on.
- Tick Ask visitors for permission first.
- Press Save.
- Open your shop in a private (incognito) window to see the bar as a new visitor would.
How it works
- A new visitor sees a bar at the bottom of the page: "We use cookies to measure our ads and improve your shopping experience." with two buttons, No thanks and Allow.
- Allow: the page reloads and tracking starts: the browser Pixel loads and events go to Facebook as usual.
- No thanks: the bar closes and nothing is sent to Facebook for that visitor.
- Until the visitor answers, nothing is tracked, not even a page view.
- The answer is kept in a small cookie on that visitor's browser for 180 days, so the bar does not keep coming back.
- The bar appears on your shop's pages and on your landing pages, and only while Facebook tracking is on.
Example: "Rangdhanu Fashion" starts shipping to customers in the UK. They tick Ask visitors for permission first, so every visitor decides before any Facebook tracking starts.
Good to know
- It is off from the start. Most shops selling only in Bangladesh leave it off. Turn it on if you sell to Europe, the UK or other places where the law needs consent.
- Fewer events reach Facebook. Visitors who press No thanks or ignore the bar are not counted, including their orders. Your ad reports may show fewer sales than your panel.
- A visitor who changes their mind can clear the cookies for your shop in their browser; the bar shows again on their next visit.
- Other codes are separate. This bar controls only the Facebook tracking from this page. Codes you added in Google Analytics & Tag Manager or Other tracking codes are not held back by it.
Common problems
- I do not see the bar. You already answered in this browser. Open a private window. Also check that the badge on the page says Tracking is ON.
- Events dropped after I turned it on. That is expected: only visitors who press Allow are tracked.
