When Facebook tracking is on, your shop sends five events to your own Pixel: PageView, ViewContent, AddToCart, InitiateCheckout and Purchase. Each one goes from your shop's server and, if the browser Pixel is on, from the visitor's browser too, with the same event ID, so Facebook counts it once.
Where to find it
Admin › Online store › Tracking & codes › Facebook Pixel & CAPI. The Last 7 days box there counts each event.
How it works
| Event | When it is sent |
|---|---|
| PageView | A page of your shop or a landing page opens |
| ViewContent | A product page opens, with that product and its price |
| AddToCart | A shopper adds a product to the cart, with the quantity just added |
| InitiateCheckout | The checkout page opens (with the cart), or a shopper starts filling the order form on a landing page |
| Purchase | Once per order, when the order qualifies (see below) |
When does an order count as a Purchase?
- Cash on delivery: at the moment you chose in Cash on delivery orders count as a Purchase: when the order is placed, when it reaches Processing (or a later step: Ready to Delivery, On Courier, Complete), or when it is Complete. A status change you make in the admin counts too.
- Online payment: only after the payment gateway confirms the money came.
- Never counted: orders that are Incomplete, On Hold, Cancelled, Return or Fake at the time of the check.
- Only once. Saving or editing the order again never sends a second Purchase.
Example: "Rangdhanu Fashion" chose When the order is confirmed (Processing). A customer orders a kurti for 1,250 taka. Nothing is sent yet. When a staff member confirms it as Processing, one Purchase of 1,250 taka goes to Facebook.
Good to know
- What is in an event. The value in taka (BDT), product IDs and quantities. To help Facebook match the buyer, the customer's phone, email and account ID are scrambled (hashed) before they are sent, along with the visitor's IP address, browser and Facebook click information.
- Your shop is never slowed. Events are sent after the page has reached the visitor, so pages and checkout do not wait for Facebook.
- A refresh is not a new event. Reloading the same page reuses its event, so nothing is counted twice.
- Ask first. If you turned on Ask visitors for permission first, nothing is sent for a visitor until they press Allow.
Common problems
- No Purchase events. Check your cash-on-delivery choice: with Complete selected, a Purchase is sent only when the order is delivered. Also check that tracking shows Tracking is ON.
- Events counted twice. Your Pixel code may also be in Google Tag Manager or Other tracking codes. Remove it there, or untick Also load the Facebook Pixel in the browser.
