Nothing is lost on the first failure. Every event is saved in your store's list before it is sent. If Facebook is busy or the connection drops, the event waits and is sent again a little later, with longer gaps each time, up to 8 tries. Your shop, cart and checkout keep working the whole time.
Where to find it
Admin › Online store › Tracking & codes › Facebook Pixel & CAPI (ট্র্যাকিং ও কোড). The Last 7 days box counts sent, waiting and failed events, and Latest events shows the last 15 with a note for any that did not go.
How it works
- A visitor does something (opens a page, adds to cart) or an order qualifies as a Purchase. The event is saved for your store.
- After the page reaches the visitor, your shop sends the event to Facebook.
- If Facebook takes it, it is marked Sent.
- If the problem looks temporary (Facebook busy, too many requests, no connection), it is marked Waiting and tried again: first after about 30 seconds, then after 1, 2, 4 minutes and so on, each gap twice the last.
- A background job runs every minute and sends the events whose turn has come. Visits to your shop also give waiting events another try.
- After 8 tries without success, the event is marked Failed.
Example: Facebook has a short outage for 10 minutes. The AddToCart events from that time show as Waiting, and within the next tries they turn to Sent. Your ad results catch up on their own.
Good to know
- Some errors are not retried. If Facebook refuses the event outright, for example because the access token is wrong or expired, it is marked Failed at once. Fix the token, then press Send test event.
- Old events are not sent. An event that still has not gone after about two days is marked Failed ("event expired"). Facebook does not want very old events.
- The time stays true. A Purchase sent on a later try keeps the time the order qualified, not the time it finally went.
- Switched off? While tracking is off or incomplete, saved events keep waiting and use up their tries; new events are not recorded.
- Tracking never blocks a sale. Any tracking problem is caught quietly, so a page, a cart or an order is never stopped by it.
Common problems
- Many events are Failed. Read the note next to them in Latest events. A note with "meta 190" usually means the token is wrong or expired; generate a new one in Events Manager.
- Events stay Waiting for long. Check that the badge says Tracking is ON and press Send test event to see Facebook's answer.
