Point your domain with two A records at the company you bought it from: one for @ and one for www, both to the server IP shown on the Custom domain page. Do not use a CNAME for www.
Where to find it
The values: Admin › Online store › Store design › Custom domain (অনলাইন স্টোর › স্টোর ডিজাইন › নিজের ডোমেইন), in the box How to connect your domain, step 3. Add your domain on that page first.
The records themselves: in the DNS settings of your domain company's website, or of Cloudflare if your domain uses it.
Step by step
- Open Custom domain and keep it open. Look at the table with Type, Name and Value in step 3.
- Sign in to your domain company's website and open your domain's DNS settings (sometimes called "DNS management" or "Zone editor").
- Delete any other A or CNAME record for
@and forwww. Old records send visitors to the wrong place. - Add an A record:
- Name:
@ - Value: the server IP shown on the Custom domain page.
- Name:
- Add a second A record:
- Name:
www - Value: the same server IP.
- Name:
- Save. Go back to Custom domain and press Check now.
Example: "Rangdhanu Fashion" owns rangdhanufashion.com. At the domain company the owner deletes the old A record and a www CNAME, then adds A @ and A www, both with the IP from the page. Some hours later the page shows Working (https) for both.
How it works
When you press Check now (and every 10 minutes by itself), your domain is looked up. First the TXT record that proves the domain is yours must be found; until then the status is Waiting for the TXT record. Then the domain counts as pointing here when its A record is the server IP shown on the page. Under the steps, the page shows what your domain points to now, marked correct or not here yet.
Good to know
- Why not a CNAME? Your free
ecommerceautopilot.comaddress runs through Cloudflare. A CNAME from another domain to it is refused by Cloudflare, sowwwwould never open. - The TXT record comes first. Besides these two records, the page shows a TXT record (name
_ecap-verify.plus your domain, value starting withecap-verify=). Add it too; nothing goes ahead until it is found. - Several domains? Every own domain needs the same two A records, and its own TXT record.
- DNS changes can take from a few minutes up to a few hours to be seen everywhere.
- If the page shows "the server IP — ask support" instead of an address, contact the eCommerce Autopilot team for the IP.
- Cloudflare: set both records to DNS only (grey cloud) until the status shows Working. With the orange cloud, your domain shows Cloudflare's address instead of ours.
- Leave your email (MX) records as they are. Only the records for
@andwwwchange.
Common problems
- "Points to …" shows an old address. An old A record is still there, or the change has not spread yet. Delete old records and wait.
- "Points to nothing yet." The records are not saved, or the change has not spread yet. Check the spelling of
@andwww. wwwworks but the main domain does not (or the other way). One of the two records is missing. Add both.wwwhas a CNAME and does not open. Delete the CNAME and add an A record forwwwwith the server IP.
