I use Cloudflare: why is my domain not detected?

If your domain's DNS is at Cloudflare and the record has the orange cloud on (Proxied), the world sees Cloudflare's address, not your store's server. The panel then cannot tell that your domain points here. Switch both records to DNS only (grey cloud) and keep them that way until your domain shows Working (https).

Where to find it

In the panel: Admin › Online store › Store design › Custom domain (অনলাইন স্টোর › স্টোর ডিজাইন › নিজের ডোমেইন). The How to connect your domain box shows the two records to add.

At Cloudflare: your domain's DNS records page.

Step by step

Cloudflare changes its screens from time to time, so the menu names below may look a little different.

  1. Sign in to Cloudflare and open your domain.
  2. Open the DNS records list.
  3. Find the A record for @ (your bare domain). Its value must be the server IP shown on the Custom domain page.
  4. Click the orange cloud next to it so it turns grey (DNS only). Save.
  5. Find the record for www. It must be an A record with the same server IP. If it is a CNAME (for example to your free ecommerceautopilot.com address), delete it and add an A record instead. Turn its cloud grey too and save.
  6. If it is not there yet, add the TXT record shown on the page (name _ecap-verify, value starting with ecap-verify=). A TXT record has no cloud.
  7. Back in the panel, press Check now.
  8. Wait until the label shows Working (https).

Good to know

  • Why it matters. The panel decides "this domain points here" by looking for the server IP, after it has found your TXT record. Behind the orange cloud it sees Cloudflare's addresses instead, so it keeps saying Waiting for DNS.
  • The line under the domain tells you. It shows where the domain points now. If you see addresses you do not recognise while Cloudflare is on, they are Cloudflare's.
  • The certificate needs it too. The free certificate is checked straight at your domain. With the orange cloud on, it often fails and the label shows Certificate failed.
  • After it works. The simplest choice is to keep both records on DNS only. If you turn the orange cloud back on later, set Cloudflare's SSL/TLS mode to Full or Full (strict). With Flexible, the page can keep reloading, because your store always sends visitors to https.
  • Delete other A and CNAME records for @ and www first, as the page asks. Two different A records make the domain point to two places.
  • No CNAME to your free address. Your free address also runs through Cloudflare, and Cloudflare refuses a CNAME to it from another domain (error 1014), so www never opens.

Common problems

  • Still "Waiting for DNS" after switching to grey. DNS changes can take from a few minutes to a few hours. Press Check now again later.
  • "Certificate failed". Check that both clouds are grey, then press Check now. If you do nothing, the panel tries again by itself after 6 hours.
