Can my shop send emails from Gmail?

Yes. In Admin › Administration › Settings › Email (SMTP) put smtp.gmail.com as the host, TLS with port 587, your Gmail address, and a Google App password — not your normal Gmail password. Google refuses the normal password for this.

Where to find it

Admin › Administration › Settings › Email (SMTP) (প্রশাসন › সেটিং). Only the store owner (Super Admin) can open it.

Step by step

First, make an App password in your Google account:

  1. Sign in to the Gmail account you want to use.
  2. Turn on 2-Step Verification in your Google account's Security page. Google only offers App passwords when it is on.
  3. Open myaccount.google.com/apppasswords.
  4. Type a name such as "Rangdhanu Fashion shop" and press Create.
  5. Copy the 16-letter password Google shows. You will not see it again.

Then fill in Email (SMTP):

  1. Mail Host: smtp.gmail.com
  2. Mail Encryption: TLS
  3. Mail Port: 587
  4. Mail From Address: your Gmail address, for example rangdhanufashion@gmail.com
  5. Mail From Name: your shop name
  6. Email: the same Gmail address
  7. Password: the 16-letter App password (spaces do not matter)
  8. Admin Email: where you want new-order and contact-form emails, which can be the same Gmail
  9. Press Update.

Good to know

  • Your emails then go out through Gmail. With the App password saved, new-order and Contact us emails are sent from your Gmail address. Password-reset emails still come from eCommerce Autopilot.
  • Never use your normal Gmail password here. An App password only works for email sending, and you can remove it any time from the same Google page without changing your main password.
  • Use the same address in Mail From Address and Email. Gmail sends from the account you sign in with, whatever other address you type.
  • SSL works too: choose SSL with port 465 instead of TLS with 587. Just keep the pair together.
  • Gmail is fine for a small shop. Google limits how many emails one account can send in a day. If you send many emails, use a business email service instead.
  • Just want order alerts in Gmail? Put your Gmail in Admin Email. New-order and Contact us emails go there.

Common problems

  • The App passwords page says the setting is not available. 2-Step Verification is off, or the account is managed by a school or company that blocks it. Turn on 2-Step Verification, or use another account.
  • I changed my Google password and emails stopped. Google removes App passwords when the main password changes. Until you do, your shop's emails are not sent. Make a new App password and paste it into Password.
  • Order emails land in spam. Open one, mark it "Not spam", and add the sender to your contacts.
