Why does saving stock add only the change I typed?

Your shop keeps one stock number for each product (and for each size and colour of a variable product). When you save, the panel compares the number you typed with the number the page showed when you opened it, and applies only that difference. Orders that came in while the page was open stay counted.

Where to find it

  • The product form: Admin › Online store › Products › All products, then the product's edit icon. The number is in Stock Quantity (one per row on a variable product).
  • The Stock page: Admin › Online store › Products › Stock, then Add New Stock.

Both need the Products & stock feature. The store owner always has it.

How it works

  1. You open the product. Stock Quantity shows 20.
  2. While the page is open, two customers order one piece each. The real stock is now 18.
  3. You type 30 and save, because 10 new pieces arrived.
  4. The panel sees you changed 20 to 30, a change of +10. It adds 10 to the real stock.
  5. Stock is now 28, not 30. The two sold pieces are not given back.

The Stock page works the same way. Search the product on Add New Stock; its row shows the current stock. Type the new figure and press Save. Only the change you made is applied.

Example: Rangdhanu Fashion's manager counts 15 three-pieces on the shelf and opens the product, which shows 15. During a busy evening, 3 sell on the website. She types 25 after a delivery from the tailor. The stock becomes 22, which matches the shelf once the 3 orders are packed.

Good to know

  • Type the new total, not the amount to add. If the box shows 20 and 10 pieces arrived, type 30.
  • One number everywhere. The product form, the Stock page, checkout, orders, the Stock column on All products and Low stock alert all read the same stock.
  • Each size and colour has its own stock. On a variable product, change only the rows you mean to change. Rows you leave as they were stay untouched.
  • An empty box changes nothing on a product that already has stock.

Common problems

  • "I typed 30 but it shows 28." Orders came in while the page was open. Those pieces really left, so 28 is correct.
  • The number looks wrong even so. Reload the product page to see the latest figure, then type the count from your shelf and save again.
