Every product and category form has one SEO (Google) section with a small Google preview on top. Type your SEO title and meta description and watch the preview change; the counters tell you when the text is too long. On a product's edit form, yellow warnings show what to improve.
Where to find it
- Products: Admin › Online store › Products › All products, add or edit a product, then press SEO (Google) near the bottom (it opens and closes).
- Categories: Admin › Online store › Products › Categories, in the add form or a category's edit window, under SEO (Google).
You need the Products & stock tick; the store owner always has it. Brands have the same section on their edit form.
Step by step
- Open the product or category form and find SEO (Google).
- The preview shows the address, a blue title and a grey description, as Google may show them.
- Type an SEO title. The counter shows the length out of 60 and turns red above it.
- Type a Meta description. The counter shows the length out of 155.
- Optional: type a Focus keyword. Under it you see ✓ or ✗ for title and description, telling you if the word is in each.
- Check Page address (slug). When you leave the box, it is turned into small letters and dashes.
- Press Save (or Update).
How it works
Empty boxes show what the shop will use. The grey text inside an empty box, and the preview, show the automatic version:
| Form | Title if empty | Description if empty |
|---|---|---|
| Product | " |
The start of the product's text |
| Category | " |
The start of the Category page text |
On a category, Category page text (shown under the products) sits just above the SEO section.
Warnings on the product edit form appear in a yellow box above SEO (Google). They never stop a save:
- another product has the same SEO title (or the same name, when neither has an SEO title);
- another product has the same meta description;
- the product text is very short (under 150 characters);
- the main photo has no alt text of its own;
- the address ends with a number, such as
-2, because the name was taken.
Only your own shop's products are compared.
Example: Rangdhanu Fashion has two sarees with the same name. The warning names the other one; adding the colour to each SEO title clears it.
Good to know
- Changing the address is safe. The old address keeps working (301).
- Categories have no share image or show/hide-in-Google box; products do.
Common problems
- No warnings on a new product. They appear on the edit form after the first save.
- The address is refused. Another product (or, on a category form, another category) of your shop uses it, or it has capitals, spaces or Bangla letters.
