Your shop sends customer codes (phone check, forgot password, sign in with a code) only through your own SMS account, never the platform's. If codes do not arrive, first check that account in Settings › SMS and send yourself a test. Then check the limits below.
Where to find it
Admin › Administration › Settings › SMS. Only the store owner (Super Admin) opens it.
Step by step
- Open Admin › Administration › Settings › SMS.
- Check the status at the top says SMS is on. If not, tick Send SMS, fill every box for your SMS company and press Save.
- Send a test SMS to your own number (01XXXXXXXXX) and read the answer from the SMS company.
- If the test fails, fix it in your SMS company's account: balance, key, or sender ID.
- Ask the customer to try again after a minute.
The limits
To protect your SMS balance, codes have limits. Each shop has its own.
| Limit | What the customer sees |
|---|---|
| One code a minute for the same number | "A code was sent a moment ago. You can ask for another one in … seconds." |
| 5 SMS an hour to one number | "Too many codes were asked for. Please try again in about … minutes." |
| 10 SMS an hour from one internet address | the same message |
| 300 SMS a day for the whole shop | the same message |
A code is valid for 5 minutes and stops working after 5 wrong tries.
Good to know
- No account, no SMS. For Forgot password? and Sign in with an SMS code, a number without a customer account gets no SMS. The page still says "If 01XXXXXXXXX has an account here, we have sent it a 6-digit code." That is on purpose, so nobody can find out who has an account.
- A code works only on the shop that sent it. A code from another shop on the platform does not work on yours.
- Bangladeshi mobile numbers only. Other numbers get "Please enter a Bangladeshi mobile number".
- When SMS is off, the Sign in with an SMS code button and the verify card are hidden, and the forgot-password page offers email instead.
Common problems
- The test SMS arrives but codes do not. The customer may have hit a limit, or (for reset or sign-in) the number has no customer account here. Ask them to sign up or use the number on their account.
- "This code has expired." More than 5 minutes passed. Press Send a new code.
- "We couldn't send the SMS just now." The SMS company did not accept it. Send a test SMS to see why.
