How do I set a product's SEO title and description?

On the product form, press SEO (Google) to open it, fill in SEO title and Meta description, and save. A small Google preview shows how the product can look in search results, and Facebook uses the same title when someone shares the link. If you leave the boxes empty, the shop fills them in for you.

Where to find it

Admin › Online store › Products › All products › Add Product (or the edit icon next to a product) › SEO (Google)

You need the Products & stock feature (Admin and Manager have it; the owner always does). Your shop's own home page title and description are set separately in Admin › Online store › Marketing & SEO › SEO settings.

Step by step

  1. Open the product's form and scroll to the bottom.
  2. Press SEO (Google). The section opens with the Google preview on top.
  3. Type the SEO title: the product name plus a word buyers search for, for example "Cotton Three-piece for Summer – Rangdhanu Fashion". The counter shows the length out of 60.
  4. Type the Meta description: one or two sentences on what it is and why to buy. The counter shows the length out of 155.
  5. Optional: Focus keyword (the preview says if it is in the title and description), Meta keywords, a Share image.
  6. Press Save (or Update).

How it works

Good to know

  • Changing the address is safe. The old address keeps working with a permanent (301) redirect to the new one. Use small English letters, numbers and dashes only.
  • Warnings help, they never stop a save. On the edit form a yellow note can say another product has the same SEO title or description, the product text is very short, the main photo has no alt text, or the address ends with a number.
  • Replaced by / Discontinued for good (edit form only) decide what a hidden product's page does: send shoppers to another product, or tell Google it is gone for good.
  • Meta keywords do not help ranking. Google does not use them, so you can skip the box.
  • Each product its own words. Do not copy the same title and description to many products.

Common problems

  • Facebook still shows the old title or picture. Facebook keeps its own copy of a shared link for a while. Use Facebook's Sharing Debugger to fetch the link again.
  • The SEO boxes are hidden. They are folded. Press SEO (Google) to open them.
  • The address is refused. Another product of your shop already uses it, or it has capitals, spaces or Bangla letters. Change it and save again.
