Make an OAuth client in Google Cloud Console, then paste its Client ID and Client secret on the Google sign-in for customers card and press Save Google sign-in keys. Your shop's Continue with Google button then uses your own Google app. This is optional: without your keys, the platform's Google sign-in is used.
Where to find it
Admin › Online store › Tracking & codes › Google Analytics & Tag Manager, the Google sign-in for customers card below the Google code boxes.
Only the store owner (Super Admin) can save these keys; staff cannot.
Step by step
- Open Admin › Online store › Tracking & codes › Google Analytics & Tag Manager and scroll to Google sign-in for customers.
- Copy the address shown on the card. It looks like yourshop.com/auth/google/callback.
- In Google Cloud Console, create an OAuth client for a web application.
- Add the copied address as an authorised redirect URI and save it in Google.
- Copy the client ID and client secret that Google gives you.
- Back on the card, paste them in Client ID and Client secret.
- Press Save Google sign-in keys. You see "Google sign-in keys saved for your store".
- Open your shop's login page in a private window and press Continue with Google to test it.
How it works
- Kept for your store only. The keys are stored encrypted, under your store. No other store can use them.
- Both keys are needed. Your own Google app is used only when both the client ID and the secret are saved. Otherwise the platform's keys are used.
- The secret stays hidden. After saving, the Client secret box is empty and says "saved — leave empty to keep it". Type a new one only to replace it.
Example: Rangdhanu Fashion wants Google sign-in to run on its own Google account. The owner makes a Google app named "Rangdhanu Fashion", adds the callback address, pastes the keys on the card and saves. From then on, Continue with Google on the shop goes through that app.
Good to know
- Going back to the platform's keys: empty Client ID and save. Both saved keys are removed.
- The same button works on the sign-up page, where it reads Sign up with Google.
Common problems
- Google says the redirect URI does not match. The address in Google is not exactly the one shown on the card. Copy it again from the card.
- "Google sign-in did not work. Please try again." Check that the client ID and secret are pasted in full, with no spaces, and that both are saved.
