How do customers sign up and sign in on my shop?

Customers make an account at yourshop.com/register with their name, mobile number and a password, and sign in at yourshop.com/login with their phone number or email and password, an SMS code, or Google. Signed in, they land on their account page with their orders. An account is optional: anyone can order without one.

Where to find it

On your shop, not in the admin panel:

  • Sign up: yourshop.com/register
  • Sign in: yourshop.com/login (the shop's header and the Account button on phones link to it)
  • Account page: yourshop.com/dashboard, after signing in
  • Forgot password: yourshop.com/forgot-password

How it works

Signing up. The customer fills in Name, Mobile number, Password and Password again (at least 6 characters) and presses Create account. Last name and Email are optional; an email lets them reset the password by email. They are signed in straight away. They can also press Sign up with Google.

Phone check. If your shop has its own SMS account (Admin › Administration › Settings › SMS), a new account gets a 6-digit code by SMS and the Verify your phone page opens. The customer can skip it with Verify later. Without an SMS account, sign-up works the same, just without the code.

Signing in. On the sign-in page they type their Phone number or email and Password and press Sign in. Keep me signed in is ticked at first. They can also press Sign in with an SMS code (only when your shop can send SMS) or Continue with Google. Forgot password? resets it with a code by SMS or a link by email.

One account for every shop. A customer who already has an account on another shop on eCommerce Autopilot can sign in to yours with the same details. The account is linked to your shop the first time they sign in here, and then appears in your customer list. Another store's owner or staff login can never sign in to your shop.

Sign up with details used elsewhere. If the email or mobile number already has an account and the customer types that account's password, they are signed in and the account is linked to your shop ("Welcome back! You are signed in."). Otherwise they are asked to sign in instead. The message never says which shop the account belongs to.

The account page has tabs: My orders (newest first, with a plain status such as "On the way" or "Delivered", the items and the total), Profile & password, Wishlist, Shop and Sign out.

Reviews. A signed-in customer can rate a product from 1 to 5 stars and write a few words on the product's page, under Write a Review. One review per product.

Your team. If you or your staff sign in on this page, you go straight to your admin panel. The staff sign-in page sends customers back here with "This sign-in is for staff. Customers: sign in here".

Good to know

  • Guests can always order. Checkout and landing page order forms work without an account, and the sign-in page has a Continue shopping (or Continue to checkout) button.
  • Which orders a customer sees. Orders placed while signed in, plus your shop's guest orders with the same phone number placed after the account was made. Once they verify their phone, they also see older guest orders with that number. Only your shop's orders show.
  • Your own Google keys. Google sign-in works with eCommerce Autopilot's keys; you can add your own in Admin › Online store › Tracking & codes › Google Analytics & Tag Manager, in the Google sign-in for customers card.
  • You see who signed up. Your customer accounts are listed in the admin panel (see "Where do I see customers who signed up on my website?").

Common problems

  • "That phone/email and password do not match. Please try again." The phone, email or password is not right. The customer can press Forgot password?.
  • "You may already have an account with this email or mobile number." The customer should sign in with that account's password, or sign up with a different email and mobile number.
  • "This Google account cannot sign in here." The Google email belongs to another store's owner or staff login. They sign in with a password instead.
  • No SMS code arrives. Your shop needs its own SMS account with balance in Settings › SMS.
  • An old order is missing from the account page. It was placed as a guest before the account was made. The customer verifies their phone on the account page, or follows it with the order tracking page.
