Use square photos for products (800 × 800 pixels), wide pictures for the home page slider (1500 × 400), and square pictures for categories and blog posts. Resize big phone photos before you upload them. Your shop makes light WebP copies by itself.
Where to find it
These are the upload boxes the tips are for:
- Admin › Online store › Products › All products (product Image and Multi Image)
- Admin › Online store › Store design › Sliders
- Admin › Online store › Products › Categories (Category Image)
- Admin › Online store › Pages & blog › Blog posts (Image)
The sizes your shop uses
| Picture | Best shape and size | What happens on upload |
|---|---|---|
| Product photo | Square, 800 × 800 | Kept; a WebP copy is saved next to it for the product page, and a light copy up to 600 × 600 for product cards |
| Slider | Wide, 1500 × 400 | Saved at exactly 1500 × 400 |
| Category image | Square, 90 × 90 | Saved at exactly 90 × 90 |
| Blog main picture | Square, 800 × 800 | Saved at exactly 800 × 800 |
| Picture inside a text | Any shape | JPG, PNG, GIF or WebP, up to 5 MB |
"Saved at exactly" means the picture is stretched to that size. A picture in the same shape keeps its proportions; another shape looks squashed.
Good to know
- Slider label. The slider form shows "(900*400)", but the picture is saved at 1500 × 400. A picture in the 1500 × 400 shape (about 4 times as wide as it is tall) looks right.
- Same shape across a category. When every product photo in a category has the same shape, product rows line up neatly.
- Product in the middle, plain background. Product cards are small on a phone. A clear product on a light, plain background is easy to see.
- Resize phone photos. A phone camera photo is many times bigger than 800 × 800. Resize it first; it uploads faster and opens faster.
- Text on sliders. Keep words large and near the middle. On a phone the slider is small, and small text is hard to read.
- WebP is automatic. Big JPG and PNG pictures get a light WebP copy. You do not need to convert anything.
Common problems
- A slider looks stretched or squashed. It was not in the 1500 × 400 shape. Crop it to that shape and upload it again.
- A category icon looks blurry. It is shown small (90 × 90). Use a simple square picture with one clear object.
- A blog picture looks stretched. Crop it to a square before uploading.
