Two ticks decide it. CRM — see customers lets a person look at the customer list, profiles and follow-up tasks. CRM — work with customers lets them change things: add customers, write notes and calls, give tags and set tasks.
Where to find it
Give or take the ticks in Admin › Administration › Users & access › Users & logins: open the person and tick the features. The store owner always has both.

Other roles do not usually get them. The user form shows this advice next to each tick.
CRM — see customers opens:
- CRM overview, Customers and Follow-up tasks in Admin › CRM › Customers
- each customer's profile: orders, delivered and returned counts, money spent, notes, calls, tasks and tags
- Export CSV of the customer list
CRM — work with customers adds:
- Add customer, and changing a customer's details, tags and staff member in charge
- writing notes and calls, and deleting wrong ones
- adding, ticking and deleting follow-up tasks
- making tags, the Group rules (VIP and Inactive) and Refresh numbers
Good to know
- Give both together to someone who will work with customers. The CRM links in the sidebar show only with CRM — see customers.
- Product reviews has its own tick, Reviews: Admin, Manager and Moderator get it, and a Store Manager can be given it.
- Website customer accounts is a separate tick for the list of people who signed up on your shop.
- Inbox chats have their own ticks too (Inbox — own chats, Inbox — every chat, Inbox settings).
- Staff only ever see your store's customers.
Common problems
- A staff member cannot find the CRM in the sidebar. Tick CRM — see customers for them.
- They can see customers but there is no Add customer button, and tick boxes are grey. Tick CRM — work with customers too.
- A Seller should see a customer's order history. Give them CRM — see customers; it is not part of the Seller role by itself.
