How do I choose which categories appear in the menu?

The category menu on your shop shows your main categories that are marked Popular. To show only some of them, tick those under Home categories › Sidebar Category. Sub-categories appear in a drop-down under their parent category.

Where to find it

  • Admin › Online store › Products › Categories: the parent of each category and the Active Popular button.
  • Admin › Online store › Store design › Home categories: the Sidebar Category list.
  • Admin › Online store › Store design › Menu bar: a list of every category with its parent and a Show in Menu tick.

The Store design screens need the Website design tick. Categories need Products & stock.

Step by step

  1. Open Categories. For each sub-category, set its Parent Category (edit it if needed), so it sits under the right main category.
  2. In the category list, tick the main categories you want in the menu and press Active Popular. The Popular column now says "yes". (De-active Popular takes them out.)
  3. To show only some of the popular ones, open Home categories, tick them under Sidebar Category and press Update. If nothing is ticked there, every popular main category shows.
  4. Open your shop's home page and check the menu.

Example: Rangdhanu Fashion has the main categories "Three-piece", "Panjabi", "Saree" and "Accessories". All four are Popular, but only the first three are ticked under Sidebar Category, so the menu shows three items. "Panjabi" has the sub-categories "Cotton" and "Silk", which show in a drop-down under it.

How it works

  • On a computer, the menu bar on the home page (with the Default theme) lists the categories from the steps above. Pages you ticked for Menu bar on the home page (after the categories) come after them.
  • On a phone, the category row under the header shows every main category marked Popular.
  • A theme other than Default draws its own home page with its own category section.

Good to know

  • The Menu bar screen. Its Show in Menu ticks are used by the older shop layout. On the current layout, the menu follows Popular and Sidebar Category as above.
  • Only main categories (no parent) appear in the bar. A sub-category shows inside its parent's drop-down.
  • Keep the menu short and clear, so customers find things quickly.

Common problems

  • A category is missing from the menu. Check that it has no parent, that Popular says "yes", and, if you use Sidebar Category, that it is ticked there.
  • A sub-category shows as a main item. Its Parent Category is empty. Edit it and pick the parent.
